Join Kevin,
Stuart and Bob on a journey through ages which will eventually lead them to
meet Gru. Minions tell the story of how our beloved banana eating henchmen
evolved from single celled organism to one of the cutest beings we know. The
minions live to serve the baddest of the bad, and over the millennia they meet
them all. How long their master survive because of them is a different topic
all together.
From the moment
the Universal logo comes on the screen you’ll start laughing and you would
definitely laugh your pants off during the end credit montage. However the same
is not true for majority of the content in between. Minions continue to be as adorable as they
were in the two Despicable Me movies but the same level of charm is not present, as when they were talking to human characters in the original two movies like Gru
and the three sisters, especially Agnes. Bob, the child like minion, is
present to fill the shoes of Agnes, is arguably the best character of the movie but he also fails to fully hit the high levels. The antagonist of the movie “Scarlet Overkill”
starts off with a bang. The introduction to the baddie is one of the more
memorable scenes of the whole movie. But by the end it feels like, she is one of
those fireworks which takes off with loud noise but end with an equally small pop.
Even if I didn’t
like the movie as much as the original two movies, it doesn’t mean that the
movie is a disaster in any form. It still have quite many punchlines which will
definitely tickle your funny bone. The leading trio has really good chemistry
considering and you connect with them, even though they don’t speak English or any other human language
for that matter. Kevin the leader, Stuart the player and Bob the kiddo can be
considered at the peak of their stereotypical characters. Even though they do
not bring much new to these stereotypes, they still performs amazingly in their
own little universe. A few of the side
characters which were not focused upon in trailers are really funny. They will keep you giggling through
the weirdest portions of the movie.
Just like most
spin offs, Minions suffer from the huge expectations already set by the
existing fan i.e. ME, who was unable to stop himself from saying “BANANA” every time he saw the
poster or trailer or even an actual banana. As a standalone movie it is
definitely a must watch. However I will not spend my hard earned money to go
again to the theaters for the repeat watch.
